Be Carefull of Maharishi University Scam

This is for all IT professionals and specially people coming from outside the US, and those who coming from strong religion believes such as Muslims.
You might receive an invitation or an ad that announce this attractive master degree in the US:
"You are invited to apply for the Computer Professionals Program to earn a Master of Science in Computer Science (MSCS) degree and work in the United States of America.
All international students receive financial aid for their tuition, housing, and meals, and work for two years in a full-paying practical training job in the USA.
Visit the University's website for more information and to apply online.
The Computer Professionals Program is available at only one accredited university - Maharishi University of Management in the USA.

Here's a brief summary:
* You will earn an MSCS degree from a highly respected, accredited university that integrates the study of computer science with a scientifically proven technology for awakening your total brain potential.
* Hiring remains very strong - in the past six months, more than 100 technology companies in America have hired our students at an average starting salary of $65,000 per year.
* A recent InfoWorld compensation survey found that the average salary of IT professionals in America with an MSCS degree is an extra $14,525 per year than the average salary of those without the degree.
* The University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. The United States government has awarded the University more than $20,000,000 in federal research grants.
* The University is renowned for its harmonious campus in the friendly city of Fairfield, Iowa in the central USA. Many students come from other countries, living and learning together as a world family."

Maharishi University in Fairfield Iowa is a small university that teach you Hindu religion believes, the founder Maharishi Mahesh Yogi is a very smart guy, he founded what is called Transcendental Meditation (TM) a Hindu related activities that claim to give you peace and bring a consciousness to your mind. During the TM, you will be asked to say the Mantra (Hindu God name). This shit is a compulsory thing for your passing and your study.

The master curriculum is based on Java programming, and it is in software engineering (although it is far below the software engineering curriculum in any other university).

During study, you never eat MEAT and hence you should follow old Indians vegetarian shit and the food is worst than what you think (some students go and eat outside the campus).
The campus is dirty and mess, every thing there is living in the seventy century.

The people who teach you are completely out of mind (crazy), you will feel that if you talk to them, their minds are washed and they see only Maharishi as a god.

Many people escaped from this University in the first month specially those from Asia and Europe, the placed that targeted by the ads like above.
They cannot get students from the US cause their business is already known there, and this Maharishi was detained from the US many years ago as well as India.

They attract people from outside the US by saying that they are going to be hired which is 100% false, you will never get job due to many factors such as student visa limitations by employers who seek H1B or residency.

Please be careful and don't apply to this university (www.mum.edu or www.mum.com/compro) and spread this info to whoever you feel might need it.

  1. Dear Muslim,

I am also a Muslim, I would like to inform you that this University is not as you are saying, they respect everyone and do not try to force a religion nor anything on you, and they encourage and support all religions. Do you know that the Mosque in Fairfield is located at the University (it is actually in the same building as the University Library and science department). They even support the Muslim community on campus and may grant money to support the small mosque. (They have donated space for the mosque that is something you don’t even find in some Universities back in Islamic countries). If you do not believe that you can check (http://www.islamicfinder.org/getitWorld.php?id=972&lang= and http://www.islamicfinder.org/getitWorld.php?id=38918&lang=) they are both the same location.

As for food, they have a vegetarian diet, that is why they do not serve meat, but they do not force you not to eat meat, you can eat meat but the university will not serve it (By the way as a Muslim that actually makes it easier to eat since you don’t need to worry wither or not the food is “Halal” or not at the University dining hall). They also do not have alcohol in the University, you are not allowed to drink alcohol in the University and you are fined if you do so (I think that sounds great for Muslims) also they prohibit smoking on campus as well (that is also what I lot of Muslim encourage you), where you are not fined if you are found eating meat on campus.

As for the Mantra (the word you say during meditation) well, you can ask them what it is and they will tell you “it is a sound, that has no meaning”, and they will show you tapes of Maharishi himself stating that it has no meaning and that it may change with you, and even fade away some times. But if you want to insist on giving it meanings and saying that it is something else, you remind me of the people that insist that Muslims are terrorist and say that they read it somewhere on the web, and that Muslims are not what they say they are. And we all know that this is not true, if you want to know what Islam and Muslims are then you ask a Muslim and do not accuse them of something someone else says about them simply because you read it on the web somewhere. So if you want to know what TM and Mantra is ask them and see what they tell you, don’t go around repeating what someone accuses them of. TM was introduced by Maharishi and if you wish to know what is said during TM the best place to go to would be Maharishi himself.

Regarding work and jobs, you can ask the university to get you in contact with students out there that are currently working and you can find out for yourself if it is possible or not. Tell me something where can you find a Masters program that is where you only pay such a small amount to get accepted how is the University going to get its money back? The answer is simple; you work and pay them off later.

Finally, I would say that if you had any issues with this University it would have been better for you as a Muslim to contact the University and clarify with them before you start accusing them and using inappropriate words, I don’t think you would like it if someone did the same with you or any one of your countries Universities (let it be religious or not).

    It says in Quran
“اذا جاءكم فاسق بنبأ فتبينو ان تصيبو قوماً بجهالة فتصبحو على مافعلتم نادمين” الحجرات اية ٦
YUSUFALI: O ye who believe! If a wicked person comes to you with any news, ascertain the truth, lest ye harm people unwittingly, and afterwards become full of repentance for what ye have done.
PICKTHAL: O ye who believe! If an evil-liver bring you tidings, verify it, lest ye smite some folk in ignorance and afterward repent of what ye did.
SHAKIR: O you who believe! if an evil-doer comes to you with a report, look carefully into it, lest you harm a people in ignorance, then be sorry for what you have done.
    Al-Hujraat Aya 6

    1. English meaning of Mantra:

I think you've got to think again what you wrote about Manta

    2. Maharishi. Mantras are given in a
candlelit incense-filled room, during an initiation ceremony where the
teacher encourages the student to bow before the picture of
      Maharishi's dead teacher!

if above is true then its purely a shirk!

  2. I'm going to have to disagree to this. I was at the University just two weeks ago. What I saw and felt was completely different from what you claim. The college campus was VERY clean, the people VERY nice and calm, pleasant, and peaceful, I had an overal sense of harmony that came from the entire campus. Personally I ADORED the food. It was VERY natural and VERY healthy. If you feel you are in dire need of meat well then there is a Pizza Ranch and Burger King stock full of unhealthy, negative, and greasy food! It IS your choice but I'd rather keep my health for future use. As for the false claims of jobs and what not, well I agree that perhaps that is a far stretch as we are in a recession and even those with a Master's degree have difficulty obtaining jobs. I had a wonderful experience at Maharishi University of Management. If I did not already have my sights set on other colleges (but believe me, it is on the list) I would attend with no hesitation! I am sorry if you had a bad experience there, but I, coming from a VERY small college but seen many, had the greatest experience. I'm also sure that if one did their full investigation that they would know what the college offers and what the requirements are. No you do not HAVE to go to meditation but it is indeed strongly required. However I question one's reasoning for attending if they didn't already know about it's meditation. I find it to be a benefit but if you don't want to be "forced" to meditate then there are many colleges that offer similar w/o meditation. Don't want to do it? Don't go.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Because the philosophy of mediation is "Make others do it or they should be punished" not "Let others practice mediation and show its rewards". Simply put, there are few rewards to just doing TM and more dogma and brainwashing to be had from dedication to only saying the one word they give you in your head for the rest of your lifes meditation. Sir, your stances are EXACTLY what is holding back the university as a whole.

I love the sound of this university for my son. I understand it is accredited.

  5. The comments given by the author are absolutely ridiculous and all based on hearsay, i am a current student of MUM and i Like the environment here, its clean and peaceful(people don't use abusive language and no violence), people smile back at you, the university helps you in so many matters without even you to think about them.
I would agree the food is bland, but overall it is good for your health and if you exercise regularly you can gain muscles(without eating meat) and once in a while you can go out and have some meat. The city may be a little seventies but the people are nice and they will help you. The curriculum is good and they keep pace with times, getting a job is not that difficult as all of us in the masters degree program have previous experience in job.
So overall it's a great university where you can earn a US master's degree and get a pretty descent job.

    1. Hi Chandan. Thank you for your interest in our MSCS program. Our program is designed for experienced software engineers who may not have a lot of money to pay initially, and emphasizes OOP using Java as our primary teaching language.

If you feel you meet all the application requirements at http://mscs.mum.edu/requirements.html you can APPLY ONLINE.

It's easy to apply at http://mscs.mum.edu/apply.html. There is no initial cost to apply, and we will give preliminary response within 5-10 days. Initial cost, covering 2 semesters of coursework, excellent dining, health insurance and comfortable housing on our campus in the US (near Chicago) is between $3500 and $7000, depending on your initial level of qualification--more experienced, senior SEs pay the least up front. (You would pay us between $3500 and $7000 initially, while having at least $2200 available for personal expenses while here.)

The remainder of the ~$35,000 total program cost is covered by a loan we help you to arrange in a local bank. You would only take a loan AFTER getting hired to do curricular practical training (CPT) internship in a US company (up to 2 years). Average starting salaries have been $65,000 to $75,000 per year, so it is very comfortable to repay the loan while doing an internship. See http://mscs.mum.edu/financial-aid-intl.html for details.

We are now accepting applications for our October 2014 and February 2015 entries.

PS If you have any questions, you are welcome to contact Maryam Naraghi in English in our Admissions Office at intadmis7@mum.edu. She takes very good care of our applicants and students.

  20. As a Christian that attended MIU, they do not go against any religion, but in a subtle way they do indoctrinate with Hindi beliefs. I have seen Christian and Muslim students oblivious to this. MIU actually uses a brainwashing technique to dissociate from a person's own intuition that something is very wrong there. It is a daily process that comes to you from fellow students, staff and faculty. Very few students notice this. I began pointing this out and soon was branded a heretic and ran off campus. So the next time one of you "roos" start to "unstress" question the validity of the "unstressing" principle that has been brainwashed into your heads. Your conscience is actually telling you "something is really wrong here".

  21. To everybody considering attending MIU: Don't. Don't believe the goody-goody stories by professional MIU shills spreading lies about how great they are. There is so much honey covered Bull Shit put out there by MIU shills that its difficult to find the factual truth. And the factual truth is MIU is a bottom rate university with delusions of grandeur. Their scientific research is flagrant fraud and so is the school. Too bad it attracts many decent students that are too naive to know they have been or are getting fleeced.

I will always see Fairfield as home because of the amazing amount of wonderful, caring, and loving people there. True the University is not the best but they do try their hardest with what resources they have. They are not a big University with tons of students which makes it nice because you really do know all the other students there. Their scientific research department could use an upgrade but the research has been duly verified through proper scientific procedure of verification of results amongst other independent centers. It seems there are a some very angry people on here who would rather blame the world around them for their unhappiness instead of seeing the source of it. To all the haters out there, grow up and take responsibility for your life and what happens in it, own what you experience instead of making yourself second rate by allowing what you experience to affect your emotional welfare.

  27. Regarding believing Maharishi when he says that mantras are meaningless sounds and not Hindu religion. If a person is trustworthy, then believe him. But if the person lies often, would you believe everything he says? In later years, when teaching in the West, Maharishi said the mantras are meaningless sounds. But in his early years, when he lived in India, he said, "We select only mantras of personal gods... such mantras fetch to us the grace of personal gods." (Hindu gods).

I guess there is on good thing about this blog, it will keep all the gullible people away,, and keep the opportunities to more educated, intelligent people who know a good opportunity when they see it. I dare somebody to reply to this comment, truth alone triumphs.

  30. Hello,
I am from Bangladesh. I have completed my masters degree in Dept. of Computer Science and Engg. from India. Now, I want to get some industrial experience in USA. I have gone through the MUM website. The paid internship opportunity is quite attractive. I have already given the programming test.

However, I want to know that whether the university organize the internship for the students or the students have to find by their own? And on what basis the internship is offered? How long will be the internship period? Do I have to change my student visa to working visa for the internship? It would be very helpful if one of the current MUM student can get connected with me. My email address is: tonmoy.iitg@gmail.com

  33. Are Muslims allowed to perform Hindu rituals devoting you to a Vedic Guru? Thats what a Puja is my friend and every person who learns TM has to do one. I suggest you look up that "Guru Puja" on Wiki and take a look at this database of how the movement you are supporting is deceiving many many spiritual people, but not the scientific ones.

  37. Hello Deep Cee, please note this is NOT a MUM forum. It's probably setup by someone who was rejected by the University.
Anyways, this is a Master's level course and you can get all the info (including who to contact) at http://mscs.mum.edu

    Hope this helps.

  40. The voice tells you you’ll never get into university and do your master’s degree or doctoral qualification. It asks you if high school was all a waste of time, Of course those things aren’t true, and we hope on some rational level you know that. Write My Dissertation

  41. MUM is guilty of gross misrepresentation and fraudulent claims about it's quality of education, academic standards, condition of it's dorms and school facilities, quality of it's food service, and non-secular nature. It also makes misleading claims about job placement, and being able to enter and ACCREDITED Medical School after it's (HORRID) Pre-Med program. I invite any former students to consider a class-action lawsuit against the school for it's misleading claims and lack of academics. And to make a complaint to the Higher Learning Commission about it's standards (or lack thereof).

    1. Are you serious, Mr/Ms/Mrs or whatever "Unknown"? You think people would trust someone who can't even use his real identity? BTW, MUM does not have any pre-med program. So please at least do some homework before ....

    1. Yes, you can. It is NOT a religious school and open to everyone.

  43. To all who are interested in enrolling at MUM - please watch Wild Wild Country on Netflix, it brings you on Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh’s journey and shows you the power of belief. Just because celeberties and intelligent people have supported this university, doesn’t mean it’s right for you (i.e Scientology). I realize that Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh (“Osho”) are, in many ways, polar opposites, but it’s imoortant to do your own research before trusting ANYONE.

    1. I believe this post is about the Computer Professional's program at MUM. The University, as personally experienced, does NOT promote any religiosity or philosophy other than quality Computer Science faculty. Yes, there is a component of "meditation", but it is part of personal development and not some cult. Feel free to visit the campus to clear any doubts, or contact Linked alumni.
I agree with the last part though "do your own research" !!!

  44. Dear Craig Shaw,
Can you please brief everyone about CPT. There are number of questions everyone has.
Whether cpt is only for three months ?
How long the cpt program is renewed?
When we can start the cpt program ?
What is the time period to find CPT?
What is the intial cost for the program?
If the student is not getting the cpt , whether the intial program cost will be refunded ?
